# Documentation MCP

> Give Cursor, Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, VS Code, and other MCP clients live access to the Kombo docs.

Kombo publishes these docs as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Connect it so a coding agent can search and read the current documentation while you implement, instead of relying on training data.

The server is public and read-only. It does not use your Kombo API key, and it cannot change anything in your account.

The server URL is `https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp`.

On any page, open the menu at the top. **Connect to Cursor** and **Connect to VS Code** install this server. **Copy MCP server URL** copies the URL when your client is not listed there.

## Cursor

<Card title="Install in Cursor" icon="download" href="https://cursor.com/link/mcp/install?name=Kombo&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2RvY3Mua29tYm8uZGV2L21jcCJ9">
  Opens Cursor and asks you to confirm the Kombo docs server.
</Card>

To add it by hand:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open MCP settings">
    Open the command palette with `Cmd + Shift + P` (`Ctrl + Shift + P` on
    Windows and Linux) and run **Open MCP settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the server">
    Choose **Add custom MCP**. In `mcp.json`, add:

    ```json theme={null}
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "Kombo": {
          "url": "https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm it connected">
    Reload Cursor, then open **Settings > Tools & MCP**. The Kombo server
    should be listed as connected.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Claude Code

Register the server with the Claude Code CLI:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http Kombo https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp
```

`claude mcp list` should show the Kombo server as connected.

## Codex

Add the server to `~/.codex/config.toml`. To limit it to one project, use `.codex/config.toml` in that project instead.

```toml theme={null}
[mcp_servers.Kombo]
url = "https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp"
```

Start a new Codex session and ask which tools it has available. Kombo should be listed. No API key is required.

## Claude

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a custom connector">
    Open **Settings > Connectors** and choose **Add custom connector**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the server">
    Name it `Kombo` and set the URL to `https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use it in a chat">
    In a conversation, open the attachments menu and select the Kombo
    connector.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to this server as a custom plugin. This needs developer mode on a paid plan. On a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin may need to allow custom MCP connectors first.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the server">
    Go to [ChatGPT Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins), choose the plus
    button, then **Add custom MCP server**. If that option is missing, turn on
    **Developer mode** in Settings first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the server">
    Name it `Kombo`, set the URL to `https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp`, and choose
    **No authentication**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use it in a chat">
    Review the warning, choose **I understand and want to continue**, then
    **Create as a plugin**. In a new chat, type `@` and select Kombo.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## VS Code

<Card title="Install in VS Code" icon="download" href="https://vscode.dev/redirect/mcp/install?name=Kombo&config=%7B%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.kombo.dev%2Fmcp%22%7D">
  Opens VS Code and asks you to confirm the Kombo docs server.
</Card>

Or add this to `.vscode/mcp.json` in your project:

```json theme={null}
{
  "servers": {
    "Kombo": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## Other clients

Add `https://docs.kombo.dev/mcp` as a remote HTTP MCP server. No API key or extra headers are required.

Ask a specific question, such as how employee pagination works. The agent should search these docs and cite the page it used.
